Thank you for finding this Stephanie. As you know, I have a longstanding interest in the interactions and crossover between the Pre-Raphaelites, early photographers and the dawn of Impressionism in France. This wasn’t just an evolution going on within the visual arts and how reality was portrayed by them, but was an effect of the greater awareness of the Victorians and their European counterparts to advances in communication, transport and technology. As well as capturing the style, mood and romanticism of the Pre-Raphaelites in her subjects, Julia Margaret Cameron also photograhed some of the outstanding personalities who were shaping society at the time. It would be interesting to put some names and biographical profiles to some of the lesser well-known of her subjects who may have been influential nonetheless.
