Handwriting Analysis of Lizzie Siddal and Dante Gabriel Rossetti

I have just posted an article at lizziesiddal.com that was sent to me from author Jack Challem.  It is a fabulous insight into the personalities of Rossetti and Lizzie, determined from their handwriting.

  1. Interesting article. It’s intrigueing to see analysis of Rossetti and Siddal’s handwriting, though I think it’s coloured somewhat by other historical interpretations. I guess that’s only natural! Thanks for sharing this.

  2. Oh! One more thing on handwriting analysis. I mark university exams by the thousands and I’m always amazed at how much handwriting has to do with how well students perform on exams. And not in the way you would think!

    Students with perfect handwriting tend to do quite poorly, actually. Almost universally, students who write in a kind of scrip/cursive combination, who write firmly on the page, do best on exams. I wonder if there’s research on the subject!

  4. Comment on Margaret’s comment: the two handwriting experts who analyzed Rossetti and Siddal’s handwritings knew absolutely nothing about them…until after their analysis was completed.
